Building Your Blog: Host a Linky Party

Welcome to our Building Your Blog series!! Last week we talked about why and how to link up to parties, today we are going to chat about how to host a linky party.

First let’s answer…Why host a linky party?

  1. Networking with other bloggers
  2. Grow your blog
  3. Traffic to your blog
  4. and lastly…it’s fun!

How does it grow your blog and send you traffic?

It’s easy…have a button to your party or blog, or even ask for a link back and it magically grows.

Tips for hosting a linky party…

  • Create a button…we will be sharing how to make a button soon, but if you need one right away, here is a good tutorial from Blogging with Amy
  • Use a linky platform…we like Inlinkz {more on setting it up below}
  • Network {advertise} your party…tell your followers on your blog, Facebook and Twitter
  • Invite other bloggers…visit blogs and invite others to link up

How to set up the party…

I’m going to show you Inlinkz, because that is what we use. There is also Linky Tools, which is a little different.

  1. Sign-up with a linky platform
  2. For the thumbnail {picture} links it cost $2 per month {I believe}
  3. Add your party to your dashboard

Next choose the date and times that you want the party to open and close

Next, set up the links

You can see under the Size, we change it to either 100px or 125px. I like to see the picture, but if you have a very large party, you may want to make them smaller. Next, change to NeatFit, that will adjust everything and make it fit well. I’m sure you have seen some parties where the last thumbnail is cut off under the sidebar, this will change that.

Now you can click if you want to be emailed when you have an addition to the party and you can also send an email to the blogger who links. I like getting an email, that way I can check and make sure if the link is spam or not.

Then click Submit, and it will give you a code that will look similiar to this…

<!– start InLinkz script –>
<script type=”text/javascript” src=”″></script>
<!– end InLinkz script –>

Just change your post to HTML and copy the code. Change back to visual and preview your post. Note…you will not see the linky in your dashboard post, you need to preview before you can see it.

Hope this helps! Be sure to take our short survey letting us know what you would like covered!

    I agree with the hosting a party thing and I have done so for about 6 months but I am having trouble getting very many links added to my parties. Any ideas about how to promote a link party?

    @pamela, Thanks for the question Pamela, we will be covering this topic next week. In the meantime try visiting some other linky parties and invite others that you like to join yours.
