Building Your Blog: Promoting Your Linky Party

Welcome to our Building Your Blog series!! So far we have covered how to link up to parties, and how to host a linky party.

We’ve had some comments and questions asking how to promote and increase the number of people linking to your parties. We don’t have a silver bullet or any magical system that will ensure that your party will be a success but here are the steps we have and continue to do to promote our parties.

First it is important to promote, promote, promote…..I emphasized this three times because you need to promote your party on Your blog, on twitter and on facebook. If you are not using at least these three avenues to get information out to your current and potential readers you are putting yourself at a disadvantage. It’s real simple, the more people that know that you are having a linky party the higher chance that they will link up.

Secondly, you should be using opportunities to highlight and promote those that do join your party. There are many linky parties for bloggers to join so when someone does join yours you should do all you can to make them happy and keep coming back. Remember just as you are hosting this linky party to build traffic to your site they are joining your party in the hopes that they will get traffic from your site. Liz has a mantra that has always stuck with me,“Promote others, then promote yourself”.

Thirdly, visit other linky parties and spend time commenting on those that you find that fit your niche and even those outside of your niche that you like. Be sincere with your comments, making sure that you get across that you genuinely read their post and don’t be shy…..ask them to come join your party. This can be very time consuming but the payoff can be huge. We have a daily goal to visit and comment on 15-20 blogs everyday, some days this can take only an hour and other days I may spend three or more hours. The great thing about this step is that it has a tendency to increase your daily traffic as well as the number of people joining your party.

Additionally there are many sites that have listed out some of the various parties that everyone is having, here on It’s a Blog Party we will add your party to our daily party lists and there are several other sites out there that do the same.

With all this said it is important to keep in mind that if you choose to have a party whose niche is very specialized you can expect to have a limited amount of people linking, so if your goal is to highlight a niche segment you might be limiting yourself. You can broaden your theme and increase the pool of people that you can target.

Hope this helps! Be sure to take our short survey letting us know what you would like covered!

Great points! We are trying to build participation in our blog parties and it is slow going. I am doing the promoting on all 3 avenues and trying to reach out to other bloggers but I think with a “food blog” it has been so much harder than it should be. We all eat! lol
