Make Mine Beautiful ~ The Inspired Room Guest Post

Welcome to our Make Mine Beautiful Party! Every Friday you can link up your Decorating posts and share with others your beautiful homes!

Update: I apologize to Polly from Make Mine Beautiful Blog, I didn’t realize there was a blog with this name. I will be changing the name of the Linky Party next week, but of course, you can still link up your decorating posts.

I have an extra special treat for you today, Melissa from The Inspired Room is here to share with us.

Personalized Art from Photos

I enjoy creating a home that is personal and meaningful to me and my family. I don’t like to decorate with a lot of random things and so I love finding ways to incorporate special memories through artwork. The other day I had a blank wall to fill and I really wanted it to be filled with reminders of our summer vacations at the beach. I looked through my options and realized I didn’t seem to have the kind of art I was hoping for.

Fortunately, I had photographs. I intended to just frame them as they were, when I had a little idea! Why not put them through my Flickr editing tools and see if I could make a little art out of a standard photograph?

You could do something similar to this with any photo editing tool. I’m definitely not skilled in photography or editing so any thing I do has to be very easy! In this case, the option to edit a photo like I did comes along with the premium package I pay for each year. It is simple and I use it a lot, so it is worth the small annual fee. The tool I used on Flickr is under effects and it is called “HDR-ish.”

I played around a little bit and gave my photos a little artistic boost! A few tweaks later, I was pretty pleased with myself. It is a subtle change but you would swear you are looking at a small painting or drawing instead of a photo. Just what I was hoping for!

Then I printed them out on my home printer, put them in a frame and voila, instant beach trip art!

Here is what they look like:

Even if you don’t want to change your photos to look like art, simply framing a few fun shots from your vacations can give you art for your walls and memories you can enjoy every day!
